Starfield: an extraordinary capital, a new proof of Bethesda’s ambitions

Gaming News Starfield: an extraordinary capital, a new proof of Bethesda’s ambitions

Starfield is probably Xbox’s most anticipated video game. An expectation that seems to have been answered by Bethesda, which again promises a game out of category with New Atlantis. One of the game’s main cities will be unknown in the studio’s history.

Starfield: four capitals, including an oversized one

Lifetime, space combat, cinematics… Todd Howard, the producer, got involved with Starfield during a movie Interview conducted by IGN. He states that the game’s single-player campaign could last between 30 and 40 hours, which is longer than the studio’s previous games. A single player campaign that would take the player through different planets and their crossroads would be New Atlantisone of four major explorable cities in Starfield:

The city offers all the services you would expect and you can modify your ship thanks to the different factions (…) But New Atlantis is above all the headquarters of the Constellation, the last group of space explorers to which the player belongs. Kind of a mix of NASA, Indiana Jones and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

In addition to his status as Crossing For explorers and adventurers, New Atlantis also symbolizes Bethesda’s ambitions to make a record game with Starfield: Todd Howard states that New Atlantis is the largest city in the game, but was also never realized by the studio.

Starfield: An XXL title?

An ambition that’s embodied by other aspects of the game as well. Producer Todd Howard then hinted at it during the broadcast of fifteen minutes of Starfield gameplay during this Sunday’s Xbox Bethesda conference over 1,000 planets to explore. A bold project made possible by procedural generation. On that subject, some players would have noticed that Earth, Mars, and even NASA projects would be identifiable in-game.

Finally, the last witness (already mentioned at the beginning of the article) of Bethesda’s desire to make Starfield an XXL game: the lifespan. The title’s single-player campaign would be contained within 30 and 40 hours, according to Todd Howard. A figure already enough to punish its predecessors Fallout 4 and Skyrim. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game therefore promises a thousand explorable planets, more content and the possibility of further extending the playing time with mods.

Starfield is expected for PC and Xbox in 2023. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
