Philips Projection is preparing to market the Screeneo U4. It is an ultra short throw projector in a compact format, capable of displaying a Full HD 1080p image with a diagonal of 80 inches (203 cm) and a distance of 30.5 cm. “After the great success of the Screeneo U3, it was immediately clear to us that we had to go even further with the Philips Screeneo U4 from a technological point of view and at the same time opt for a more compact format.”explains Dan Mamane, President of Screeneo Innovation.
The company advertises the projector’s compactness, which makes it suitable for installation in any room, not just the living room. Just 19.5 cm from the wall, it already allows you to enjoy a 60″ diagonal (152 cm) image. Sticked to the wall, it delivers its smallest possible image, namely 15″ diagonal. The ease of installation will also be one of the advantages of the product: automatic focusing, keystone correction and angle correction are done in a few seconds.
The projection technology used is DLP (Adjustable Mirrors) manufactured by Texas Instruments, combined with an LED light source that reduces power consumption and significantly increases its lifespan compared to a UHP (Ultra High Pressure) lamp. According to the manufacturer, the service life is 30,000 hours or 40 years for one film per day. Another advantage: the commissioning of the projector promises quick commissioning.
On the connection side, the small size of the Screeneo U4 does not prevent it from offering enough connections for full use in addition to a Bluetooth connection with two HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB-A and a 3.5 mm mini jack connection. As for the picture quality, we won’t comment on the audio part until we have had a chance to test this projector, which includes a 2 x 15 watt “2.1 system” with an integrated bass module.
For the time being, the Screeneo U4 will only be offered via the Indiegogo platform, but in the future it could also be found via other sales channels at an undoubtedly higher price (the base price is given as €1199).
